Postdoctoral Position Available to work on a newly funded NIH grant
exploring gene-environment interplay in the development of adolescent
substance use and related behavioral outcomes, using data from the
Finnish Twin Studies. The Finnish Twin Studies have collected data on
population-based samples of Finnish twins, who have been followed
longitudinally with questionnaires and interviews, of the twins, their
parents, siblings, and classmates, from ages 12 through 25. Currently
we are examining issues such as how genetic and environmental influences
change across development; how genetic and environmental influences
contribute to comorbidity among disorders; and how specific
environmental factors interact with genetic predispositions to impact
the development of various phenotypes across time (gene-environment
interaction). In addition, genotyping is underway, allowing for tests
of the effects of specific genes on developmental trajectories of risk,
in conjunction with measured environmental risk factors. The
postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work with a
multidisciplinary team consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists,
geneticists, and biostatisticians. Washington University in St. Louis is
currently ranked a top university for postdoctoral training.
