assistant in the Department of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services
University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. In
this posting, general information about the positions is provided
first, followed by a description of each position. Finally,
application procedures are outlined.

GENERAL INFORMATION

We are seeking persons to assist in the recruitment, screening,
and testing of normal volunteers for a research project funded by the
National Institute on Drug Abuse. The project includes behavioral and
psychophysiological assessment (including event-related potentials and
resting EEG) of stimulant drug effects, as well as behavioral
assessment of drug preference.

This is a collaborative project with the Section on Clinical and
Experimental Neuropsychology of the National Institute of Mental
Health (NIMH), located on the NIH campus, across the street from the
USUHS complex. Both positions will involve courtesy appointments at
NIMH.

The incumbents will have the opportunity to work with others on
the project, including USUHS collaborator Dr. Connie Duncan, and NIMH
collaborator Dr. Allan Mirsky.

Both positions are ideal for individuals who wish to work in a
human clinical laboratory before going to graduate or medical school.

FULL-TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT

We are seeking a person to assist in the psychophysiological
assessment (including event-related potentials and resting EEG) of
drug effects in adult human subjects. The position will also involve
assisting in the conduct of behavioral studies of drug effects, as
well as in the screening of potential research subjects.

The position will provide training in psychophysiological
techniques, particularly in the use of event-related brain potentials
in studies of drug effects on information processing, and in the study
of electrophysiological markers of risk for substance abuse.

This is a two to three year position; under favorable
circumstances, the position may be extended for an additional year.
The salary range will be $20,000 - $25,000, depending upon experience,
plus benefits.

An excellent academic record and research experience are
required; experience with computers, polygraphs, event-related brain
potentials, and/or statistical packages is highly desirable. Position
requires bachelor's degree in psychology or other relevant field.

HALF-TIME RESEARCH ASSISTANT

We also have an opening for a 50%-time research assistant. We
are seeking a person to assist in the recruitment, screening, and
testing of adult human subjects in a study of stimulant drug effects.
This position will provide training in techniques of behavioral
pharmacology, including assessment of drug preference, and in
behavioral and psychophysiological assessment of stimulant drug
effects.

This is a two to three year position; under favorable
circumstances, the position may be extended for an additional year.
The FTE salary range will be $20,000 - $25,000, depending upon
experience, plus benefits.

An excellent academic record and research experience are
required; experience with computers and/or statistical packages is
highly desirable. Position requires bachelor's degree in psychology
or other relevant field.
