Statistical Data Analyst
Position Summary
This is a full time position with Washington University, St. Louis, MO.
The statistical data analyst will participate in data management and
data analyses on externally funded (currently, Twin Study of
Consequences of Drug Abuse; Twin Study of Health Services Utilization
and Alcohol-Related Problems; Twin Study of Vulnerability to Alcohol
Dependence) research projects. The statistical data analyst will work
under the direct supervision of a Ph.D. mathematician/statistican.
He/she will participate on a collegial basis with co-investigators
located in St. Louis, Chicago, Boston, and Sacramento.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions
1. performs statistical analyses using both standard epidemiologic and
twin modeling methodology,
2. maintains data bases for major research projects,
3. assist in maintaining a local area network (LAN).
Marginal or Non-Essential Other Functions
1. participates in writing abstracts, manuscripts, and research grant
applications,
2. installs computer hardware and software,
3. troubleshoots malfunctioning computer related operation.
Job Location/Working Conditions
Position is located in a standard office environment at the St. Louis VA
Medical Center (one block from Powell Symphony Hall) in a building that
does not include patient care activities
Critical Skills/Expertise
1. knowledge and experience with SAS and associated statistical
analytical concepts and techniques,
2. knowledge and experience with large database management,
3. mathematical skills to permit the development of competency in
performing multivariate genetic analyses, structural equation
modeling analyses on twin data sets, and interpreting the
analytical results,
4. knowledge of psychiatric epidemiology is highly desirable.
Minimum Education and Experience
A minimum of an MS or equivalent in biostatistics or mathematics is
preferred or BS or BA in biostatistics or computer programming,
knowledge and experience with SAS and familiarity with SPSS; familiarity
with concepts of mathematical modeling of twin data; familiarity with
UNIX, DOS, and MS-Windows operating systems; familiarity with standard
spreadsheet programs;
