With regard to the bitter-taste locus "Soa" on mouse chromosome six, some
lineal backcross and congenic mouse strains are available.

We are soon going to cease maintaining these lines, and would be happy to
provide stock to anyone who might be interested. They are in limited
supply, so availability is first-come, first-serve.

Available lines are:

[A] SW.B6-Soa(b). These are animals congenic with the inbred line SWR/J
which are homozygous for the soa-b [nontaster] allele from the C57BL/6J
inbred line. There is one line available at approximately generation
F10N21.

[B] C3.SW-Soa(a). These are animals maintained by lineal backcrossing to C3
inbred mice. They carry the soa-a [taster] allele from the SWR/J inbred
line. There are three separate lines available at generations 28-29.
