SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Abstracts are to be submitted by e-mail and will be confirmed through an e-mail reply. The e-mail address is: bga2001abs@bga.org. E-mail Abstracts must be received by Friday, March 2, 2001. One of several advantages of this procedure is that all members will have access to the abstracts well in advance of the annual meeting. We urge all members to use e-mail submission, but if that is not possible, we will accept a faxed or mailed version that follows the identical format used for e-mail submissions. Mailed or faxed submissions must be received one month early (February 2, 2001) to allow time for transcription into electronic form. Abstracts should be mailed to: Hermine H. Maes, Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics, Virginia Commonwealth University, P.O. Box 980003, Richmond VA 23298-0003, U.S.A. or faxed to 804 828 8801.

It is important to follow the instructions exactly so that the abstract will be handled properly by our computer programs. Please check your submission carefully before sending it. Do not include attachments.

Every abstract must have exactly the same eight sections (fields). Every field begins with a word set in all upper case characters and ending with a colon and appear on a separate line. The field names are shown here exactly as they must appear in your e-mailed abstract:
AUTHOR:
TITLE:
AFFILIATION AND NOTES:
MAIL:
ABSTRACT:
STATUS:
THOMPSON:
PRESENTATION PREFERENCE:
END

The entire submission should be followed by the word END (all upper case). Information about the abstract and its authors is to be added to lines in between these field names. On the reverse side is an example of an abstract submission which explains the meanings of the fields. Please refer to it before sending your abstract.

Bold or italic text can be created using simple HTML codes, for example:
<B>;these two codes will start and stop bold</B>these two codes
<I>these two codes will start and stop italics</I>these two codes
Superscript and subscript text work similarly:
left starts superscript, right ends superscript abcleft starts super
left starts subscript, right ends subscriptabcleft starts sub
Please limit the use of special characters. No spaces are necessary before or after HTML codes.

Greek characters can be designated using the name of the character within square brackets (this is not HTML). Capital Greek letters should be represented by all upper case letters [OMEGA], and others in all lower case. (Lower case is usually what you want.) For example, [chi] and [alpha] will be displayed and typeset as lower case Greek and , and [chi]2 will be set as ².

If you have questions about typesetting your abstract, see http://www.bga.org/abstracts/ or write to Hermine H. Maes at hmaes@hydro.psi.vcu.edu.

The following example abstract submission explains the meanings of the fields.

2Institute for Behavioral Genetics, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO 80309
3Supported by NIH Grant GM-12486. We thank our many students for doing all the work.

As seen previously in our 30-generation selection study of open field activity (J. C. DeFries, M. C. Gervais, and E. A. Thomas, 1978, <I>Behav. Genet.</I> <B>8</B>, 3-13), supporting Fulker's hypothesis (D. W. Fulker, 1978, in J. R. Royce and L. P. Mos, eds., <I>Theoretical Advances in Behavioral Genetics</I>, Sijthoff & Noordhoff, Alpen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands).
