POSTDOCTORAL POSITION in BIOINFORMATICS and STATISTICAL GENETICS
The VCU Alcohol Research Center (ARC) and Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) investigators are seeking a postdoctoral candidate to work on bioinformatics analyses of genomic expression, GWAS, and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) studies. The goal of the ARC is to foster cross-species research between investigators researching the response to ethanol and risk for alcoholism. A major focus of the research will be organization and integration of datasets across ARC projects and development of novel algorithms for gene network prioritization. These projects encompass multiple species including human, rodent, Drosophila, and C. elegans, and utilize different high-throughput and directed molecular approaches (GWAS, NGS, expression microarray, eQTL analysis, mutant screening, candidate gene knockdown, network analysis). Examples of datasets and integration tools generated by ARC investigators can be seen at the Ethanol-Related Gene Resource (bioinfo.mc.vanderbilt.edu/ERGR/). Candidates with degrees in Bioinformatics, Statistical Genetics, or Computer Science are encouraged to apply. Skills in large database management and statistical programming are preferred. The position offers many opportunities for collaboration, publication, and career development.

The Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics is a multidisciplinary, integrated research program in the Genetic Epidemiology of Psychiatric Illness and Human Behavior and Development. It is affiliated with the Departments of Psychiatry and Human Genetics at the Medical College of Virginia campus of VCU in Richmond, VA. Resources include world-renowned faculty in psychiatric epidemiology, biometrical genetics, statistical modeling and molecular genetics, our molecular genetics laboratory, and the Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry, all housed in >17,000 sq ft of modern office space in the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park.
