Post-doc position in genoeconomics, Erasmus University Rotterdam

Post-doc position in genoeconomics, Erasmus University Rotterdam
Erasmus University Rotterdam
Erasmus School of Economics
Department of Applied Economics

Application deadline on: March 19, 2012

Description
A post-doc position for geneoeconomics is available at the Department of Applied Economics, Erasmus School of Economics. This is a newly emerging research field that investigates the molecular genetic architecture of economic preferences (e.g. risk preferences, time discounting) and important lifetime outcomes (e.g. happiness). This research could be transformative for the social sciences by identifying novel genetic causes of behaviors and outcomes. Furthermore, the results of this research could inform epidemiology by identifying indirect influences of genes on medical outcomes (e.g. longevity, cardio-vascular diseases or psychiatric disorders) that are mediated by individual behavior. The project will include genome-wide association studies, meta-analysis and related methods using molecular genetic data.

The candidate will work with data from different sources, including the Rotterdam Study, the Health and Retirement Study, the Swedish Twin Registry, and the Social Science Genetics Association Consortium. Depending on the candidate’s preferences, the position can be located at the Erasmus Medical Center or the Erasmus School of Economics or both. The candidate will be part of a team that is leading this research effort, including Albert Hofman (Epidemiology, Erasmus Medical Center), Roy Thurik (Economics), Patrick Groenen (Econometrics), and Philipp Koellinger (Economics). Furthermore, the candidate will work closely with the principal investigators of the Social Science Genetics Association Consortium (Daniel Benjamin at Cornell, David Cesarini at NYU and Philipp Koellinger at Erasmus University) and Magnus Johannesson at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Qualifications

Candidates should have prior experience in the statistical analysis of molecular genetic data and a PhD in economics, econometrics, behavioral genetics, epidemiology, or another field that provides a sufficient background in the relevant statistical methods. Furthermore, curiosity and an interest to work in an interdisciplinary, international research environment are regarded as assets.

Conditions of employment

For this position we offer a contract for two years, subject to possible further extension. Depending on the candidate’s qualifications we offer a salary of € 3,195 to € 4,374 gross per month (scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), excluding 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end of year remuneration. Depending on his/her personal background the candidate may be eligible for a tax benefit.

The conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). This entails a 38 hour working week and an extensive package of fringe benefits.
