43rd BGA meeting Marseille

The 2013 BGA meeting will be held from June 28 to July 2, 2013 in Marseille, France, with Michèle Carlier and Pierre Roubertoux as the local hosts.

There will be a Festschrift for Professor Norman Henderson on July 2.

Information about Fellowships and Awards:

ASSOCIATE MEMBER TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS

The Behavior Genetics Association invites applications for Associate Member Travel Fellowships for the 2013 annual meeting in Marseille, France. Awards will be based on perceived need and scholarly merit. The number of fellowships awarded and amount of each award will be determined by the Program Chair (President-Elect). Please note that no geographical constraints apply to eligibility for the awards. To be eligible for a fellowship, applicants must:

1) be an associate member of BGA or be in the process of applying for membership (i.e., an application for associate membership must be submitted on or before March 15, 2013). NOTE: Travel awards are intended to support predoctoral associate members. In rare instances (e.g. recent graduation), a postdoctoral applicant may be considered, however, in general, postdoctoral members are encouraged to apply for regular membership upon graduation.

2) agree to attend substantially all of the BGA meeting if funds are awarded

3) submit a C.V.

4) submit a letter of endorsement from the associate member’s adviser/sponsor which addresses (a) the applicant’s orientation toward a career that incorporates behavioral genetics; (b) the applicant’s financial need for the award; and © how residual costs of attending the conference will be covered

5) present a poster or oral paper (as first author) at the meeting and include a copy of the abstract with the application materials.

All applicants should submit an abstract via conference maker

AND send a copy of the abstract, along with a C.V. and letter of endorsement from a sponsor by March 15, 2013 to the Program Chair, Carol Prescott. Applicants will be notified of their award status by March 30, 2013.

THOMPSON AWARD

To apply for the Thompson award for outstanding presentation by an Associate Member, please be sure mark your abstract as eligible for the Thompson during abstract submission. As of this year, only ONE abstract per member is eligible for the Thompson. Please see the relevant announcement or contact the Program Chair, Carol Prescott

FULLER & SCOTT AWARD

To nominate a colleague (or for self-nomination) for the Fuller & Scott Award, please refer to the award announcement. Fuller & Scott nominees must be within seven years of receiving their terminal degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.). For this year’s award, individuals receiving their terminal degree in 2004 or later are eligible for the award. Nominations for the Fuller and Scott Award can be made by any member of BGA. To nominate someone/apply for the Award, please send (by email, fax, or regular mail) a brief letter explaining why the individual should receive the award, along with a copy of the nominee’s CV, to the BGA Secretary, Arpana Agrawal before March 15, 2013. Questions may be directed to the Secretary as well.

If you are not a member yet and you are interested in becoming a new member of BGA (and paying the lower registration fees), please apply for membership on the BGA membership website, and pay the new member dues ($100 for regular members and $50 for associate/retired members) using the Google Checkout pulldown menu below.

CANCELLATION:

To cancel an advance registration, registrants must contact BGA Treasurer Soo Rhee no later than April 13, 2013. A $100 processing fee to cancel the registration will be deducted.
