Daniel Gustavson | Published on 9/24/2026

The Institute for Behavioral Genetics, University of Colorado Boulder, invites applications for up to 3 tenure track Professorships at the Assistant level (job posting: 75031) or Associate/Full level (job posting: 75033), with an academic appointment in affiliated departments or another appropriate academic unit aligned with research expertise and interests. We anticipate that the appointments will begin August 2027.

The Institute seeks to build on its historic strength in behavioral genetics. We are particularly interested in individuals who are using statistical genetics and/or twin and family approaches, and whose topics fit into currents strengths in lifespan development and aging, neurodegeneration, cognition, learning disabilities, mental health, substance use, and sleep/circadian domains. This search prioritizes candidates whose research programs are primarily computational, quantitative, theoretical, data-driven, or otherwise not dependent on dedicated wet-laboratory or animal research facilities.

Successful candidates may include individuals who conduct cutting-edge human and/or computational animal model research in one or more of the following sub-disciplines:
  • whole-genome analysis/methods development
  • statistical/quantitative genetics
  • genetic epidemiology
  • population genetics
  • computational biology
  • bioinformatics
  • machine learning; AI
  • genomic structural equation modeling
  • Mendelian randomization

Appointees will participate in the research and teaching missions of both the Institute and their academic department. Applications received by October 15, 2026, will be given full consideration.

Minimum requirements are a PhD, MD/PhD, or DPhil in a life science discipline including neuroscience, biology, genetics, psychology, physiology, or closely related field. Completion of a postdoctoral training program or equivalent is expected. A minimum of 7 years of experience in a professor or equivalent position following postdoctoral training is expected for applicants applying to the Associate/Full position.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of research and teaching interests, 3 to 5 sample research papers, and names and contact information for 3 professional references. Application materials are accepted electronically at https://www.cu.edu/cu-careers, (job posting numbers 75031 and 75033).
